Copyright law regimes operate to protect the rights of the creator or right-holder of digital works.

Consequently, copyright regimes constitute a legal barrier to accessing digital works for End users. Generally, the minority End users who participated in our research displayed a limited awareness and knowledge of copyright law in this respect, and of its relevance to their consumption of digital cultural content.

However, those participating organisations who represented people who are blind or visually impaired showed a better awareness, particularly in relation to the copyright exception provided for blind, visually impaired or otherwise print disabled persons in the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled
